Wacky and Random Christmas Writing Prompts

 

Christmas is almost upon us, and I hope you’re managing to keep up your writing practice throughout the holidays. This can be a hard time for many of us and is most definitely a pretty busy time, so I just wanted to give you a few ideas to help you to keep up your daily writing routine.

 

If you are struggling for time, try to at least write something each day; even for 10 minutes or approximately 300 words – it’s better than missing it completely, just because you can’t meet your bigger daily target. At least this way, you maintain your momentum, and your subconscious understands this something you do every day, no matter what 🙂

 

 

3 Fantasy Christmas Story Ideas

 

1. Retell “Home Alone” – change the setting, characters, or use another character as the protagonist.
2. Retell “Gremlins” – perhaps the Gremlins could be friendly? But they might cause mischief when wet/get sleepy/get drunk….?
3. “Winter Wonderland” What does this bring to your mind? Write about that.

 

3 Christmas Holiday Personal Narrative Prompts

 

For your journal, or creative writing work:

1. What was your Christmas like when you were a child?
2. How do you really feel about Christmas? Is it a happy time for you, or a period full of anxiety? What does Christmas really mean to you?
3. Write about a character experiencing Christmas alone. What are they doing? Thinking? Why are they alone?

 

3 Short Christmas Story Prompts

 

Write a short flash story, approximately 100 words using the following words as a starting point:

1. Santa’s Helpers and Candy Cane
2. Gingerbread House, and a character of your choice
3. Star of Bethlehem, and a character of your choice
